Houri Khalilian, Ph.D., Esq.

Dr. Houri Khalilian is a Partner with Law Offices of Khalilian Sira. She is admitted to practice before the State and Federal Courts of Maryland and Washington, D.C., the Maryland Court of Appeals, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Dr. Khalilian began practicing law in 1994 and has been trained at top twenty U.S. intellectual property and general practice law firms in Washington, D.C. Dr. Khalilian's practice includes preparation, prosecution and procurement of patents; providing counsel to biopharma and other technology clients toward resolution of intellectual property-related issues including the planning, development and maintenance of patent portfolios; due diligence investigations in connection with mergers and acquisitions; and preparation of patentability, validity, infringement and freedom to operate opinions.

Dr. Khalilian has also been involved with several not-for-profit organizations prompting the legal and societal interests of minorities and women in USA. She is a co-founder and advisory board member of the Iranian-American Bar Association (IABA) founded in 2000 and now having 1500 members nationally. She is also a Chapter Leader of Public Affairs Administration of Iranian Americans (PAAIA), and an active member (speaker, moderator, and fund raiser) of Iranian-American Woman (IAW).

Reza Fathi, Ph.D. 

Position: Pharmaceutical Patent Assistant

Dr. Fathi serves as the Firm's Pharmaceutical Patent Assistant providing assistance to generic and pioneer pharmaceutical drug company clients. Dr. Fathi has more than twenty years of experience in drug discovery with record of accomplishments in leading and managing the research and development of small molecules and anti-sense DNA in infectious disease and oncology therapeutic domains. In addition, Dr. Fathi has broad pre-clinical, ADME, PK, toxicology and safety pharmacology experiences related to drug discovery.

Dr. Fathi is an author and co-inventor for a number of scientific publications and United States and international patents in the field of small molecules for infectious disease, nucleic acid technologies, antiviral nucleoside analogs, natural product based small molecules synthesis, high throughput screening of small molecules, combinatorial chemistry, modified nucleosides and oligonucleotides for anti-sense therapeutics and diagnostics, and HCV lead compound identification.

Dr. Fathi has previously been appointed as the Head of the Chemistry Core at Harvard Medical School's Harvard Institute of Chemistry and Cell Biology, Director of Research Operations for XTL Biopharmaceuticals, Director of Research Operations for VivoQuest, and Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for Proseed Capital Holding CVA.

Prior to his position at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Fathi was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Chemistry Department of Rutgers State University where he developed and demonstrated the synthetic strategies necessary for the synthesis and utilization of specifically modified nucleosides as a tool for probing nucleic acid structure, drug binding, and protein-nucleic acid interaction. He received his Ph.D. in Bio-Organic Chemistry from Rutgers University and his Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry from Texas Tech University.
